Over the weekend of 17th February to 20th February 2022, BoatLife Live took over 3 impressive sized halls at Birmingham NEC. It put on a spectacular show for hobby boaters to die-hard adventurers!

As the first boat show kicking off the 2022 UK boating season, it was a great shop window to all things boating and on the water. We visited on the final Sunday where we were not disappointed with the number of boating enthusiasts that had come out to play (despite Storm Eunice and glad the event was indoors!).

What was at the BoatLife Live show?

The event showcased boats up to 45ft including RIBS, powerboats, sailboats, inland craft and watersports – plus a range of equipment and holiday companies. For us, the most impressive was the Princess Motor Yachts display. As much as we would dig deep into our piggy banks, even the 1/4 share price would be pushing it!

Seeing ABC Boat Hire was a nice surprise with one of their canal boats on display to walk through. We think this was one of the most pleasant surprises about the BoatLife Live show in that it was extremely interactive and hands-on.

There were loads of things for kids to get involved with, from virtual reality experiences to educational displays. There were also so many different types of accessory suppliers demonstrating the best of what they had to offer.

It was great to see RNLI making an appearance which meant I got to get my annual weekly to-do pad and make a friendly donation to this incredible cause. The Waterlodge Floating apartments were definitely tempting. Wifi OnBoard made us dream of living full-time on one of the M250 House Boats that are just heavenly. The Hydropool displays of all their hot tubs and swim spas made us extremely envious and The Papillon Gallery with their Marina Syntelis Canvas Prints reminded us of how we feel in love with the waves of the ocean.

For some light refreshments, the Inland pub ‘The Rosie’ was welcoming along with the Mediterranean Bar making you feel like you could be a million miles away from Birmingham!

Boatlife Live Stage

The lineup of speakers and boating influencers during the whole show was impressive. From Katie McCabe giving details about her seven-week voyage around Britain to Bren Orton Whitewater kayaking around the world! Other talks were around finances, lifejackets and sailing electric.

As we visited on the final (4th) day, we had the privilege of seeing Dave Haze (SUP record breaker) and Jo Moseley from The SUP Podcast on the live stage. They were both inspiring in their SUP challenges and records that they have been breaking! Honest and humble, it was a motivational talk that made you want to pick up the nearest SUP board and get onboard.

Next up was Stress Free Sailing with Author Duncan Wells. Duncan’s true passion comes through when he speaks and he was full of great advice. Simple advice that his tutorial videos made look easy but would save so much hassle!

There were so many great speakers over the show that it’s a shame we only got to see a couple. Thankfully the show has uploaded all the live stage talks onto YouTube – check them out here.
