Beach Huts in Mudeford don’t come much more unique than this. Set on a beautiful sand spit which adjoins the headline of Hengistbury Head, forming a natural barrier between Christchurch Harbour and the open sea. With clear blue water, sand between your toes and beautiful views of the Isle of Wight, it’s often described as a little piece of Caribbean in Dorset!
The beach huts in Mudeford are a firm favourite, visited again and again by many. You’ll find rows and rows of beach huts on the sea side of the spit. On the harbour side, there’s lots of birdlife to watch where it is not quite so windy. There is plenty to see and do in Mudeford and its Quay, along with a great loop walk, facilities available and many points of refreshment as you go along.
How to get to the beach huts in Mudeford?
Mudeford is located to the west of the south English coast. It is a harbour side and beach side town, based on a former fishing village in the east of Christchurch, Dorset, just 3 miles away. Historically, it used to be in the county of Hampshire. It is surrounded by two bodies of water – Christchurch Harbour and Avon Beach. Bournemouth is 7 miles west of Mudeford.
There are plenty of public transport options, with trains going to nearby Christchurch and buses covering the remaining route to the beachfront and Mudeford Quay.
The Beach Huts are accessible from the west by foot, bike or land train from Hengistbury Head car park, if travelling by car. From the east, a passenger ferry runs between Mudeford Quay and Christchurch Quay, where the beach huts can be accessed.
The huts are a bit of a mission to get to with all your belongings for the day or a few day’s stay, but it’s worth it. If you have a lot to get to the hut, there is a Landrover with a trailer for use – book in advance on 01202 425517.
